To the Keepers of Lore and Loam

TrogtoolsTo the Keepers of Lore and Loam, we say – Stone.

Stone: of earth, rough, smooth, hard, permanent and void of feeling. There are those that would consider such words, especially the latter, as grounds for a good feud — those who are of stone, those who live from stone and of stone earn their bread.

Rock and Stone,
Gem and Ore,
Flecks of Gold,
And Diamond Stores.

They light the way to earth below,
Through miner’s shaft through which they go,
With pick and spade for wealth untold,
The Trogs of Threll of stone they know.

Stone, it is the way. Way, it is the stone. From its essence are Trogs born and for its hewing are Trogs grown. Such is the Trog view of the world. Miners all, from man to wife and wife to whelp. Not one thing stands, certainly that stands because of stone, without their aid. Theirs is the lore, the Lore of Loam, with it they cut and with it they mold and from such lore do most things stem. Have need of a bridge, hire a Trog. A monument require mending, hire a Trog. Fresh jewels for the Queen’s crown, hire a Trog. Vanishing walls and shifting rock are your interests, hire a Trog. By the Trogs the world was built and by the Trogs the world remains, so the Trogs would have you believe. Though if ever find yourself in real need of hiring one, be wary of one thing. Trogs are a shrewd and hungry lot, eat you out of house and home and practically every meal constitutes a work-stoppage, to include the meals you didn’t know were meals — a Trog day isn’t a day unless they’ve had at least eight. And arguing with them on the matter will only serve to annoy them. Do that and you’ve certainly assured yourself time and a half and another week added to the schedule, which, of course, they’ll smugly point out to you is all part of the contract that you may or may not realized you signed.

The Trogs of Threll, shrewd indeed. But what do you expect from dirty dwarfs with no manners and their minds on their money and their money on their lore??

Inkling #11:

What is The Seven Thunders:?  It is those who quarry till the day be dark and the dark be down. It is the mindrell axe and the miner’s hat, the sifting tray and the trolley trove. It is about those who made the Thunders what the Thunders are, and of their secrets to which they are bound.
